A popular meaty delight, smoked beef is known to be quite a beloved delicacy in Meghalaya, and in other a regions of North-East India. This recipe features this delicious smoky protein paired with the mild, and slightly sweet pumpkin, creating a wonderful combination of mouth-watering flavours. 


Ingredients:

  • ½ kg smoked beef, cut into medium-sized pieces

  • ½ kg pumpkin, cut into small chunks 

  • 1 medium onion, chopped 

  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced 

  • ½ tsp turmeric

  • 2 tbsp mustard oil (or vegetable oil)

  • Salt, to taste

Directions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan or wok. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté for 2-3 minutes, or until softened. 

  2. Add the smoked beef and cook it for about 1-2 minutes, or until browned.

  3. Add the pumpkin chunks along with turmeric and salt and sauté it well. Cook over medium-low heat for about 10-15 minutes till the water from the pumpkin dries out.

  4. Serve it hot with steamed rice or roti.
